My boyfriend and I went to see The Matchmaker at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival last weekend.
It is set in late 1960s Haifa, and sets a coming-of-age story against the story of the Holocaust survivors. I really appreciated this film for dealing with the topic; I haven't seen it covered in many other films or books. Two or three main characters survived and have not found the support, the mental health services, the social web, etc needed to "deal with"/work through the shame, the nightmares, the aftermath in their new home of Israel. It almost seems that they're just begrudgingly welcomed/taken in.
Has some really funny lines, stays with you for a few days, and if you get the chance to see it, I think a lot of people would enjoy it.
