There was an ad in the WSJ yesterday for a set of DVDs or CDs called Beginnings of Judaism. There are 24 lectures taught by Professor Isaiah M. Gafni at Hebrew University in Jerusalem where he earned his Ph.D.
The cost of CDs for the set is $49.95 The cost of the DVD set is $69.95 Shipping is $10
Has anyone ever heard of this professor or bought CDs or DVDs from this company , Great Courses? Address for this course is: www.THEGREATCOURSES.com/3ws
They will probably list the titles of the lectures. They were listed in the WSJ too.
I think I know the company. They have many courses on tape or CD and they are usually very good - academic - professors - recognized people. I'm guessing the CD's are probably just audio, but I'm also guessing the DVD's are mainly audio with still photos - I may be wrong though.
I think I will try to contact the company and see what the DVDs are like. Maybe they show the professor talking. That is my guess. Maybe he shows some photos along the way too. The topics look interesting. The website gives some reviews by people too.
I did phone the company and the employee showed me how online I could check to see if there were many visuals. In this course, there are some maps but that is about it, so CDs would be about as good the DVDs which basically show the professor lecturing.
Just before the customer reviews for a particular course, the site tells whether there is much difference between the CDs or DVDs of that particular course.
