NAVIGATING THE FORUM. If you are at the home page, you will see the various topics. They are in bold print. They are called boards. They are Conversations about Judaism, Celebrating the Jewish Holidays and so on. If you want to read a story, for example, click on "Telling Our stories". Now, you will see all the stories which are new threads and you can read them there. You can start a new thread yourself, or respond to one of them. Your response doesn't have to be a big deal. Just a comment is good to let folks know that you have read what they wrote.
READING THE POSTS. You can check the most recent messages quickly by going to "Forum Statistics" at the bottom of the home page and clicking on "View the 10 most recent posts of this forum"
To read individual posts, click on a topic, for example, "Going Kosher". Now click on "setting up the kitchen". You will see several posts there. You can read each one and respond to it if you like.
RESPONDING TO POSTS . Let's say that you want to respond to Debbie's story. Go first to the board called "Teling Our Stories" You can see that Debbie started a thread there and the number of people who have read it. Click on "My Story, Debbie B". Once you have done that, you can now see her story. If you want to reply to it, you click on the icon that says "reply" Now, a new box will show up and you write your reply in the message box and then go to the bottom of the page and click on "post reply". There are smily faces you can add or add bold and so on. Those are the "add tags" I have never used those but if for example you click on the B for bold, you write your words in between what shows up and it will come out bold! Kind of primitive, but that's the way it is
3. STARTING A NEW THREAD Let say you want to start a new topic. The forum calls them new "threads". Click on the board called "Telling Our Stories" for example. Let's say you want to write a new story. At the top in the blue area, you will see "New Thread". Click on that. Now, you will see a new box. Fill in the subject with the name you want to give your subject. Write your message in the message box and then do post message. It is as easy as that.
4. One other thing. You can delete or modify your OWN message whenever you want to.
Just experiment at the forum. Once you get the hang of it, you will see how easy and fun it is to read messages, start new threads and reply to what others have written. It is more enjoyable for readers when more members on our Forum post replies. We need active writers not just readers.
