I was so moved by this film, it's incredibly powerful and touches on a sensitive subject in Israel. The film was directed by Ronit Elkabetz and her brother Schlomi, it's their third film in a trilogy loosely based on their Mizrahim parents. It deals with the struggle of obtaining a Jewish divorce from a rabbinic court. Ronit Elkabetz plays the long-suffering wife and she was the most famous actress in Israel. Her performances are always hypnotic and magnetic. She also starred in French productions. She died of cancer at age 51 earlier this year.
The hypnotic “Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem” is the story of a woman wronged by men and God, if finally, in a sense, redeemed by cinema.
